A bunch of fun activities will be held on Lantern Festival day – which falls on Feb 5 this year – at the scenic areas of Xinghua city in East China's Jiangsu province.
Here are some of the top ones on offer:
Li Zhong Water Forest scenic area
Tourists can watch lanterns and solve lantern riddles at the east side of Wobo Bridge, the wooden promenade and the promenade in front of Shui Po tea house.
They can also watch peacock dancing performed on the water at Wobo Bridge and hear performances of folk songs and folk music at the theater in the forest.
For family activities, people can experience making tangyuan – also known as yuanxiao, a traditional food made from glutinous rice flour – at Dazhengguo Square. They can also have a go at lantern painting at Wenchuang Square.
Jin Dong Men scenic spot
Blessings and praying activities will be held on Feb 5, when you can see beautiful lanterns at the square. People there can receive blessing cards and taste tangyuan with fermented rice soup.
Wu Jin Dang scenic spot
Lanterns will be displayed and sold at the square, creating a great festive vibe. People can take food and drink with them and have a barbecue at the spot, as sites and BBQ utensils are being provided on the day.
Shi Naian Cultural Park
People can set off fireworks and taste delicious tangyuan on Feb 5. On the next day, a traditional folk activity – crossing the torch – will be held, to drive away bad luck.
