The Dazong Lake Scenic Area in Xinghua city – located in East China's Jiangsu province – recently got official approval to be a national 3A-level tourist attraction.

Since the city banned fishing in Dazong Lake, its ecosystem has been improving continuously. There are now more than 100 wild plants, 20 plus rare bird species, as well as over 20 varieties of fish and other aquatic creatures.

All in all, its great water ecology, local fish cuisine and fishing have established a solid foundation for the tourism development of the lake.

Moreover, the scenic area has introduced a raft of tourism activities to attract even more visitors. People can experience the excitement of water sports, try their hand at fishing and have a carefree time in a leisure zone.

Thanks to the high-quality water, the aquatic products in the lake are fleshy and fresh. That's especially true of the silver carp, the lake's signature fish. It has tender flesh and is rich in protein and as a result, soup made from it is tasty and fatty, but never greasy.

No surprise, then, that the dishes cooked from Dazong Lake's aquatic products have been rated as a four-star feast at a local cooking contest earlier this year.

It's a popular camping site and is a great choice for parent-child activities during holidays.

In addition, the scenic area's staff are active in spreading the word and know-how about wetlands and in promoting Chinese culture and education in the revolutionary tradition.

Plans are for it to develop itself into a new cultural landscape, integrating conservation, leisure tourism and patriotic education.
