The new Xinghua Academy, located in Xinghua city, East China's Jiangsu province, opened to the public on April 23.
Leveraging the platform, plans are for the city to actively integrate local government and social resources to enhance the social benefits of national reading.
Designated as a national historical and cultural city, Xinghua has an atmosphere that is rich with the fragrance of books and its strong reading atmosphere nourishes the intellectual and cultural character of the city.
The academy is located in the ancient architectural complex where the city's millennium Confucian Temple is situated.
Its main roles include a key actuator for the dissemination of thought and ideas, a national station for reading, a traditional culture exhibition hall, a civilized practice popularization center and a must-see spot for cultural tourism.
On the academy's opening day, Xinghua held such activities as book giveaways, book cards giveaways, themed lectures and the launch of the "Duoshang Reading Month" series of events.
During this year's reading month, 67 reading activities will be launched in Xinghua to meet the needs of different age groups and reading interest groups.
