Xinghua city in Jiangsu province was recently honored for being a "National Civilized City", a prestigious honor and comes in the wake of the city's designation last year as a national historical and cultural city.
In recent years, Xinghua has steadfastly promoted its development of material civilization and spiritual civilization, with the aim of spreading the enlightenment into every corner of the city.
Nineteen Xinghua people have won the title of "Good Samaritan of China" and over 200 locals are rated as moral role models.
The city also carries with it the weight of its rich culture, with the Caoyangang archeological site there confirming the origins of the civilization along the Yangtze River and the Huaihe River. What's more, the Xinghua Duotian Irrigation and Drainage System has won honors for being a "Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System" and as a "World Heritage Irrigation Structure".
Xinghua is currently home to two historical and cultural blocks, one historical and cultural town, 23 traditional villages, 110 cultural relic protection units, 110 historical buildings and 124 listed items of intangible cultural heritage.
In addition, the city is committed to turning its development achievements into tangible well-being that is within reach of the public.
The initiatives, including the renovation of 88 old residential areas and four farmer's markets into supermarkets, have bolstered a sense of community advancement and gain among locals.
