The first Xinghua Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Week kicked off on June 14 at Lianxi Lake Park, located in Xinghua city, East China's Jiangsu province, also marking China's Cultural and Natural Heritage Day this year.

The opening event for the week, which runs to June 20, started with a performance of a Shagou Bench Dragon Dance. Local folk sitcoms, Haozi folk music and other performances were also staged.

An intangible cultural heritage fair, featuring 36 different types of stands, attracted people to stop by and take a look. They included colorful farmers' paintings, lifelike fun clay sculptures and sparkling tin tea cups, together carrying the cultural heritage and historical memories of Xinghua for thousands of years.

At a creative trendy play area, people had the chance to try out making handicraft items with their own hands. Paper cutting and wood carving masters gave on-site guidance, so folks could have a real go at making pleasing things.

There were also provincial-level intangible cultural heritage projects, including Shi's traditional Chinese medicine pediatric therapy and Bian's ophthalmology therapy, allowing people to experience the wisdom of millennium-old health preservation techniques.

From June 14 to 20, 26 sub-venue activities will also enter scenic spots, campuses and communities, bringing intangible cultural heritage into everyday life.
