Two villages in Xinghua, Jiangsu province, were added to the list of characteristic idyllic countryside demonstration by the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Jiangsu Province on June 12.
These listed villages, including Caowang and Ningxiang natural villages in Xinghua, focus on ecological protection, cultural heritage, and industrial integration, enabling locals to share environmental and economic benefits, thereby contributing to rural vitalization.

Caowang in Qianduo town, which boasts a 7,000-year-old Neolithic site, is nestled in the Lixiahe wetland and borders Lizhong Water Forest.
The village has constructed a cultural exhibition center based on its heritage of straw weaving, fish farming traditions and canal transport culture. It also pioneers a shrimp-and-lotus co-cultivation model that produces crayfish and crabs under a local brand, integrating agriculture, culture and tourism.

Ningxiang in Chenbao town, adjacent to a wetland reserve, has restored historical sites and preserved the distinctive layout of the Lixiahe wetland, while cultivating free-range chickens and river crabs. The village has also developed diversified business models such as homestays, study tours, and wellness treatments.
