Xinkailong (Jiangsu) Biotechnology has begun production at China Medical City in Taizhou, Jiangsu province. Its first batch of cell culture media and animal serum products attracted industry attention upon release and secured orders from more than 10 companies.
Xinkailong settled in China Medical City in 2025 with an investment of about 200 million yuan ($29.49 million). It has built three specialized production workshops and supporting facilities for dry powder cell culture medium, liquid cell culture medium (stem cell culture medium), and animal serum, promoting large-scale, standardized production of domestic biological consumables.

Cell culture medium and animal serum are essential components of cell culture systems. The animal cell culture industry in China started relatively late. For a long time, biopharmaceutical companies have relied heavily on imported high-end consumables, such as cell culture media, animal sera, and therapeutic antibodies for gene and cell therapy research and development.
Targeting the market supply gap, Xinkailong has partnered with Chinese research institutes and universities to build a high-quality R&D team. They tackle essential technical challenges, including cell modification and domestication, while refining and optimizing the scientific formulation of the culture medium for enhanced efficacy.
Xinkailong has also benefited local companies related to it. After its operation, many companies in China Medical City, such as Celyee Biotek and Sinovet Biopharmaceutical, have contacted it and expressed interest in cooperation.
"In the production process of biopharmaceuticals, core consumables such as cell culture media account for about 40 percent of the total cost of raw materials for enterprises. Xinkailong's cost-effective products can help us reduce production costs and improve quality and efficiency," said Li Lei, general manager of Celyee Biotek.
