Shengci town in Jiangjiang, Jiangsu province, kicked off its traditional grand gathering and a temple fair on May 1, marking the opening of the city's cultural tourism and consumption promotion series for the May Day holiday.
The event featured the debut performance of the original large-scale drama "Eternal Loyalty", which pays tribute to Yue Fei, the heroic general of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), who led his men to battle against the invading Jin army.
The drama "Eternal Loyalty" blends various art forms to depict historical scenes and highlight Yue's cultural legacy in Jingjiang.
The 450-year-old Shengci Temple Fair is the most renowned folk event in western Jingjiang. This year, the town highlighted Yue's loyalty through immersive experiences. Activities included "Yue's Army" parades, creative markets, and traditional food stalls.
Throughout the holiday, Jingjiang organized 26 major cultural and tourism activities in other urban and rural areas. Major cultural spaces and commercial hubs hosted events like the May Day carnival, parties dedicated to young talent, and car exhibitions.
Meanwhile, unique attractions in towns like Xinqiao and Xieqiao offered diverse experiences, including riverside concerts, beer and barbecue festivals, and cultural tours.
