The former residence of Ding Wenjiang, a piece of classical garden architecture dating back to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) in Huangqiao town of Taixing city in Jiangsu province, is now a museum that showcases his contributions to geological sciences, inspiring future generations with his relentless pursuit of truth and his selfless dedication to his country as a scientist.

Born on April 13, 1887, in Huangqiao town, Ding was a pioneering geologist and social activist in modern China. He played a crucial role in the establishment of China's first geological survey and research institute, working alongside notable figures like Liang Qichao, a prominent Chinese thinker, and Hu Shih, a Chinese scholar, to explore ways of strengthening the nation. His lifetime achievements significantly advanced Chinese geological sciences, catapulting them to the forefront of global research in the early 20th century.

In Ding's former residence, visitors are greeted by a bronze statue depicting the man himself, highlighting his dedication to hands-on research and exploration across China. Notably, his efforts led to the discovery of armored fish fossils in Southwest China's Yunnan province, confirming the existence of the "Age of Fish" during the Silurian period.

Ding was not only a scientist but also a passionate patriot. He advocated for scientific approaches to national issues and opposed mysticism, promoting a "scientific outlook on life". His integrity and dedication to public service are exemplified in a letter where he declined a government-funded study opportunity on behalf of his younger brother, emphasizing the importance of supporting less privileged but deserving students.
