New literary landmark launches in Taizhou city

The Wang Gan Bookstore, named after the renowned author, was launched on April 10 in the Taizhou Medical High-tech Zone, in Taizhou city, situated in East China's Jiangsu province.

Wang Gan – from the county-level city of Xinghua, administered by Taizhou – is a top writer, academic and calligrapher. He won the fifth Lu Xun Literary Award in 2010 and was appointed as one of the first batch of cultural experts in 2021.

China Writers Association Honorary President Wang Meng and Jiangsu Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles President Zhang Jianhua jointly opened the bookstore.

It has a floor space of about 200 square meters, containing over 3,000 representative works from Wang Gan and other famous writers. It aims to integrate reading, cultural exchanges and discussions and to collect cultural resources.

The China Writers Association's Wang Meng told the opening ceremony that Taizhou is a national historical and cultural city with rich heritage, that attaches great importance to the development of local literature.

The author himself, attending the event, was fulsome in his praise.

"The Wang Gan Bookstore is the result of literary, cultural and spiritual love between me and the zone," Wang Gan said.

"The bookstore is like my charger and gas station and I appreciate and thank the zone for helping me connect to them," he added.

At a symposium that followed, guests exchanged ideas about Wang Gan's works, including his new book Ren Jian Shi Dan.
