The performance of the rural collective economy in Hailing, a district in Taizhou, East China's Jiangsu province, has ranked first in the city for two years in a row, according to the recently released 2022 list.

The achievements can be attributed to various measures taken by the district over the past several years.

It has taken full advantages of its geographical location, as well as its abundant assets and resources to embark on its unique path of increasing income for collectives and revitalizing rural areas.

The district encouraged villages and rural communities to utilize the collective resources and turned them into assets. In 2020, a 5,500-square meter office space in Beima community was available for tenants in the daytime, while its banquet hall was also opened for rent to cultural event organizers.

Since then, a wide range of rental projects have brought the district about 2.06 million yuan ($300,000) in collective income.

Hailing has set up 13 pilot projects, covering agriculture cooperatives, property management, and investment, to develop rural industries in 11 villages and communities, generating about 2 million yuan income and creating over 1,000 jobs for local farmers.

The rich ecological and tourism resources in the district also play an important role in collective economy development. By transferring land to investors, as well as planting fruit and tea, local farmers have been able to earn more.
