The groundbreaking ceremony for a major photovoltaic module junction box factory, being funded by Sichuan Shidi New Energy Co Ltd – located in Southwest China's Sichuan province – was held recently.

It took place in the Hailing district of Taizhou city, in East China's Jiangsu province, on Sept 3. As a connector for solar cell components, photovoltaic junction boxes provide connections and protection for solar power generation systems.

The project will be divided into two phases, with plans for the first phase to start construction in September and begin production in July 2024. Its production capacity is projected to reach 60 gigawatts by the end of 2024 – making the facility the world's biggest photovoltaic module junction box production base.

Hailing district is striving to build a leading national Solar City and the completeness of the photovoltaic industry supply chain is currently said to have reached over 95 percent.

It took just 17 working days for the district to approve the deal, signaling the rapid pace of the project.

The company is committed to the research, development and manufacturing of photovoltaic module support products and will inject new vitality into the development of Hailing's solar power industry, said its chairman, Feng Jiamei.
