The massive Admiral Schmidt successfully docked on Oct 18 at the second phase of the coal logistics base in Jingjiang city – a county-level city, administered by Taizhou in East China's Jiangsu province – marking a significant milestone for the facility.

The bulk carrier was the largest foreign vessel to dock at the terminal since its opening.

The Phase II project includes the construction of a 100,000-metric-ton coal unloading berth with a designed annual throughput capacity of 6 million tons.

In late August, the provincial government approved the granting of rights for foreign ships to use the dock for berthing and cargo handling in the Jingjiang logistics base.

The green light makes it the only berth of its kind in the province to have been granted such permission this year and it's the only one in the past five years in Jingjiang city.

The Admiral Schmidt is a 100,000-ton CAPE-type foreign trade vessel that has specific requirements for port depth and infrastructure due to its large tonnage and volume.

It measures 250 meters in length, 43 m in width and has a draft of 11.2 m.

From January to September of this year, the Jingjiang logistics base completed the loading and unloading of 16.6 million tons of coal. It is estimated that the throughput will exceed 20 million tons by the end of the year.
