The first shipment of single-span steel box girder segments for the Wanlong Bridge was recently loaded onto a cargo ship and set sail from the wharf of China Railway Construction Bridge Engineering Bureau Group Jingjiang Heavy Industries Co, located in the Jingjiang Economic and Technological Development Zone.
The under-construction Wanlong Bridge, located in Nansha district, Guangzhou, Guangdong province, boasts a two-way six-lane design with a main span of 608 meters.
It is set to become the world's largest self-anchored suspension bridge by span and will be a new landmark of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Each of the segments weighs a total of 600 metric tons. The team at Jingjiang Heavy Industry Co of CRCC has employed cold spray zinc plus epoxy zinc-rich coating technology – a domestic first.
This technology combines cathodic protection with 96-percent pure zinc powder and the physical shielding of the epoxy coating, preventing corrosion of the steel box girders.
