Workers have been busy lately rebuilding the gate at Zhangqiu drainage station in Binjiang town – located in Taixing city in East China's Jiangsu – to improve its capacity to prevent floods.
The drainage station is an important section in the town to draw off floodwater and control floods. The latest round of rebuilding aims to broaden the hole of the gate, said Zhao Xinyao, chief of the town's water station.
The project, which is expected to be completed by the end of March, also supports diversion irrigation and the healthy restoration of local waterways and their associated ecosystems, Zhao added.
Winter and spring are seen as the golden time to work on construction projects supporting water conservation efforts.
"Moving forwards, the plan for Binjiang town this year is to construct 15 rural ecological riverways, as well as provide secure water supplies, a healthy ecosystem and scientific water management to promote the town's high-quality development," said Gu Tiejun, mayor of the town.
