By establishing a specialized eco-industrial park, Taixing in Jiangsu province has addressed longstanding pollution oversight challenges in the electroplating sector. The initiative also introduces a new model for centralized wastewater treatment, shared infrastructure, coordinated pollution control, and greener industrial development.
The Kimou (East China) Surface Treatment Recycling Eco-Industrial Park, located in the Taixing Economic Development Zone, commenced construction in 2021 and is now fully operational.
With an investment of 4 billion yuan ($575.94 million), the park has established a more integrated and sustainable model for the electroplating industry, featuring circular utilization and intelligent supervision.
A comprehensive network of specialized piping with a total length of 3.7 kilometers runs underground throughout the park, collecting and transporting 18 types of wastewater.
After being transported to the treatment center, the wastewater undergoes strict treatment that includes physical, chemical, and biochemical processes and deep oxidation, ensuring compliance with discharge standards. More than 50 percent of the wastewater can be recycled, strengthening the local circular economy.
The cost of treating nickel-containing wastewater from Jiangsu Yueyang Metal Surface Treatment has been reduced by about 20 percent, and the company's production process has been thoroughly optimized.
