With an investment of 2 billion yuan ($294.97 million), the sewage treatment and environmental improvement project of the Taixing Economic Development Zone in Taixing, Jiangsu province, has been completed.
The improvement includes industrial wastewater treatment, river regulation, ecological wetland development, and ecological landscape greening.
In response to the complex composition, high concentration fluctuations, and high toxicity risks of wastewater from enterprises in the zone, the project has launched an innovative "one enterprise, one pipe" collection plan and laid a 79-kilometer pipeline network.
"Critical wastewater enters the emergency pool, special wastewater enters the pretreatment unit, and conventional wastewater goes through the main treatment line, like a precise 'medical triage system'," said Yang Fan from CCCC Suez Taixing Environmental Investment, a local company.

The treated effluent that meets the standards is not directly discharged into the Yangtze River but flows into an ecological safety buffer zone. Through ecological enhancement methods such as aquatic plant purification and microbial degradation, it is transformed from "engineering water" into "ecological water".
All 117 enterprises in the zone have now been connected to the sewage treatment plant.
