The Taizhou Mei Lanfang Art Center and the Taizhou Mei Lanfang Peking Opera Troupe were launched on Sept 26 – marking a significant milestone in the promotion of famed opera star Mei Lanfang's art and the development of Peking Opera in Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province.

Mei Lanfang (1894-1961), one of the foremost masters of Peking Opera, was born in Taizhou. His artistic qualities and humanistic spirit have been passed down for over a century and have become an exemplar of Chinese culture.
In recent years, Taizhou has dedicated itself to promoting the cultural brands of the "Hometown of Mei Lanfang" and the "Holy Land of Opera".
The city has held numerous events, including the China (Taizhou) Mei Lanfang Art Festival, which have brought together opera enthusiasts and showcased the rich cultural heritage of Peking Opera.
In 2021, Taizhou established the Mei Lanfang Art Award to promote outstanding young opera talent and to create a benchmark for excellence.
The Mei Lanfang Art Center will be responsible for developing plans for Mei Lanfang culture, organizing artistic creations and conducting research into Mei Lanfang's art.
The Mei Lanfang Peking Opera Troupe will focus on putting on premium-quality productions and providing resources for high-quality performances, as well as promoting international cultural exchanges.
