Online retail sales in Xinghua city, administered by Taizhou in East China's Jiangsu province, reached 936 million yuan ($129.05 million) from January to April. This has bumped up Xinghua's ranking in Taizhou to the first place, with an increase of 53.3 percent year-on-year.

The Taizhou bureau of commerce announced this information after it received information from over 16,000 stores and 3,000 enterprises in Xinghua.

From January to April, the city's online sales of physical goods reached 847 million yuan, an increase of 45.7 percent. Its online sales generated from non-physical goods rose to 88.9 million yuan, up 205.7 percent year-on-year. The online retail sales of agricultural products hit 110 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 26.4 percent.

In recent years, by focusing on its e-commerce sector as important economic support for rural vitalization, Xinghua has held multiple related training sessions to help cultivate new and leading retail and e-commerce enterprises.

Additionally, in response to the rise of live streaming e-commerce, local departments have moved to expand sales channels for e-commerce products and promote continuous innovation in new consumption formats for commercial circulation.
