Words, ideas and insights were flying about as the first Lixia River Literature Research and Study Camp opened in Xinghua city – administered by Taizhou city, in East China's Jiangsu province – on July 14.

Xinghua is the birthplace of a raft of renowned writers including Bi Feiyu, Wang Gan, Zhu Hui and Pang Yuliang.

The camp reflects Xinghua's practice in innovating the literary talent training model – with it inviting top literary figures and educational experts from the city to give lessons to local students, to hone their writing skills.

Xinghua Party Secretary Chen Fengjian told the opening ceremony that, by grasping the opportunity, he hoped that the seeds of literature could be sowed into hearts of students and more creative minds would emerge from Xinghua.

The first Lixia River Literature Research and Study Camp invited Wang Gan, Zhu Hui, and Pang Yuliang to serve as the lead mentors for the young writers.

It also included two local writers, Shan Mei and Wang Rui, along with backbone local teachers such as Wu Xiaojian and Wei Xiaofang, serving as local mentors.

After the camp, a special column will be established in the local media to showcase the literary efforts of students.
