A complete lithium battery industry chain, covering materials, battery cells and applications, is taking shape in the Taixing Huangqiao Economic Development Zone, located in Taixing city, East China's Jiangsu province.
That's due to two star companies that are operating in the zone. One is manufacturer Jiangsu Sunpower, which produces one out of three high-rate lithium batteries in the world, and the other is Jiangsu Ninesky Optoelectronics Technology, which mainly makes steel and plastic composite tapes.
Jiangsu Sunpower's annual production capacity has now exceeded 600 million units. Its core product, called the 21,700 high-rate lithium battery — with excellent performance in fast charging and low-temperature stable operations — has entered the top five in its global market segment.
In fact, in the supply chains of 30 countries worldwide, 70 percent of their imported battery cells are from the company.
"Our goal for this year is to produce and sell 450 million batteries and generate sales of over 2 billion yuan ($278.23 million)," said Yang Chunsong, deputy general manager of the company.

At Jiangsu Ninesky Optoelectronics Technology, its nickel preplating steel strip has achieved the leap from imports to domestic production.
It is a structural material for lithium batteries, which is directly related to the battery's lifespan and safety. After over 10 years of effort, the company has developed nickel preplating steel strips for battery cases used in power batteries.
Nowadays, the 5-kilometer radius lithium battery corridor in the zone has become a new business card presented by China to the world.
