The bio-fermentation and future food industry in the Taixing Huangqiao Economic Development Zone in Taixing, Jiangsu province, generated 268 million yuan ($39.4 million) in invoices and 180 million yuan in tax revenue in the first four months of this year.
The sector is one of the zone's three pillar industries. Led by leading enterprise Dongsheng Biotech (Taixing), the world's largest manufacturer of TG enzyme, the sector has built an industrial matrix that covers functional health products, foods for special medical purposes (FSMP), and cereal-based nutritional offerings.
The zone has been focusing on platform-based empowerment. It operates a research hub led by four academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and has established a platform for 100 corporate R&D centers. Six pilot production lines for FSMP are under construction to bridge the gap between scientific research and mass production.
Cooperation intentions have been reached with industry players, including Nanfang Black Sesame Group and Xinjiang Western Animal Husbandry, as the zone moves to build a cross-regional, full-chain industrial ecosystem to drive development in both scale and quality.
"The zone will apply for national pilot status for innovative application of biosynthetic health food raw materials, to gain a competitive edge and create more favorable conditions for the future food sector," said Zhang Tong, an official of the zone.
