Jiangsu Sunpower, based in the Taixing Huangqiao Economic Development Zone in Taixing, Jiangsu province, is setting a new benchmark in smart manufacturing with its innovative intelligent factory. Rather than focusing solely on the speed of machines, the factory emphasizes the value created by data.
In the process design area, engineers leverage a product lifecycle management system for online collaborative design. "Previously, changing a parameter required multiple file exchanges. Now, all versions are cloud-based, shortening the research and development cycle," said young engineer Chen Xu.
At the quality inspection station, each battery undergoes a comprehensive health check. From raw material entry to finished product dispatch, the entire process is traceable through scanning. "It's like giving each battery an ID card, detailing its origin, handlers, and data," said quality manager Yan Huaili.

With a total investment of 1.13 billion yuan ($165 million), this smart factory encompasses construction, R&D, production operations, production management, and operational management. The self-developed energy management platform displays real-time energy consumption for each device.
The company also promotes comprehensive digital management, quantifying employee performance and optimizing task allocation, with the system automatically suggesting training videos based on skill levels.
The smart factory's results speak for themselves: a 10 percent increase in production efficiency, a 20 percent reduction in product defect rates, and a 15 percent improvement in energy utilization efficiency.
