The Taizhou Port Economic Development Zone – located in Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province – is moving decisively to become a more competitive modern industrial park, according to Wang Yingjun, secretary of its Party working committee.

Focusing on the real economy and the modern industrial system, the aim is for it to introduce core manufacturers and their suppliers.

The zone has set out the goal of achieving over 25 billion yuan ($3.48 billion) in annual output value from its resident automobile industry. It also wants to achieve GDP growth of over 8 percent throughout the year.

Highlighting the trend towards lightweight and intelligent new energy vehicles, the zone aims to sign up over 10 new projects worth 500 million yuan or over $30 million during the year.

It is also acting to newly develop over 19 manufacturers above a designated size – those with annual revenue of 20 million yuan or more – and over 10 high-tech enterprises this year.

To improve the overall level of scientific innovation, the zone will deepen cooperation with top institutions and universities and increase its numbers of platform carriers. What's more, it will accelerate the construction of a medical devices industrial park and a pet food industrial park.

To top it off, the zone will roll out more grants to attract talented personnel and move to recruit over 100 top-flight professionals this year.
