To welcome the Year of the Horse, Taizhou in Jiangsu province has launched an array of excellent events and preferential discounts for citizens and tourists to enjoy the cultural and tourism feast.

Running from 3 pm to 10 pm daily, a grand lantern festival will be held at Wanghai Pavilion from Feb 6 to March 31. It will buoy the festive atmosphere by incorporating elements from Chinese opera and integrating auspicious themes, creating a carnival-like effect that combines visual surprises with cultural heritage and joyful interaction.

Five costumed performers based on the five Chinese blessings — happiness (fu), prosperity (lu), longevity (shou), fortune (xi) and wealth (cai) — will also randomly appear at Taizhou Old Street, Taoyuan Garden, and Wanghai Pavilion, among other venues, to interact with tourists, give gifts, and take photos to bestow blessings.

In Jiangyan district, the Qinhu Lake Scenic Area will stage New Year-themed singing and dancing performances, intangible cultural heritage exhibitions, cultural and creative markets, local snacks, and folk performances from Feb 17 to 23, further adding to the festive atmosphere.

An intangible cultural heritage parade and performance, a dynamic display of traditional skills, and interactive events related to folk customs will be staged at Taixing Cultural Expo Center from Feb 19 to 21.

The Jingjiang Yangtze River Cultural Center is an excellent option if you want some trendy events, with offerings such as orchid bonsai exhibitions, singing competitions, and intelligent technology dance shows on offer from Feb 19 to 22.

In addition, from Feb 15 to 23, Wanghai Pavilion and Qilin Bay Scenic Area will be free to enter during the day. The Qiuxue Lake Ecological Scenic Area (Huaqi Yunli) will offer a discounted price of 20 yuan ($2.89) for single adult tickets during the Chinese New Year holiday.
