During the Spring Festival holiday this year, Taizhou's consumer market delivered impressive results. 51 key monitored enterprises achieved sales of 763 million yuan ($110.88 million), a year-on-year increase of 8.7 percent.
Behind this growth is a recovery in several of the city’s sectors, such as bulk consumption, supermarket retail, and cultural tourism accommodation.
During the holiday, the combination of the old for new service and consumer vouchers injected strong momentum into bulk consumption. From Feb 15 to 23, the sales revenue generated from old home appliances and digital products exchanged for new ones in the city exceeded 45 million yuan, while the sales revenue of old cars exchanged for new ones exceeded 8 million yuan.
Major supermarkets and complexes in the city opened as usual, offering exciting promotional activities. Wanda Plaza, Wuyue Plaza, and Fengqi Outlets malls in Taixing, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Taizhou, launched intangible cultural heritage markets, showcasing traditional skills such as dough figurines and sugar painting.
Online consumption also demonstrated strong momentum. Local commercial enterprises introduced online booking and offline consumption models through online mini programs in advance, further expanding consumption channels and making shopping more convenient for citizens.
In addition, the city combined intangible cultural heritage customs, cultural tourism experiences, and commercial consumption, creating immersive and interactive new consumption experiences. This included an intangible cultural heritage market in Taixing and folk parades and lion dance performances in Jingjiang, Jiangyan and other places.
