The 2026 "Taste of Taizhou" Culinary and Tourism Season officially opened on Sept 24 along Shanghai's Suzhou Creek. Hosted by the Taizhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism alongside the Taizhou Tourism Association, the event promoted Taizhou's autumn travel highlights and morning tea culture to Shanghai residents.
The launch showcased Taizhou's iconic delicacies, offering attendees authentic samplings of scalded dried tofu threads, morning tea gift sets, and interactive quizzes. Over the autumn season, Taizhou will roll out more than 600 cultural and tourism activities, featuring art exhibitions, food tastings, and heritage workshops. Ten curated travel routes were also introduced, highlighting local cuisine, Mei Lanfang culture, non-material cultural heritage, and scenic autumn landscapes.
To attract Shanghai travelers, Taizhou announced major holiday incentives for National Day, including free admission to State-owned scenic spots, complimentary public transit, and free parking across the main urban area. Out-of-town visitors can also join daily lucky draws offering travel rebates of up to 5,000 yuan ($746.72).
The event deepened cross-regional collaboration through two key agreements: joint promotional cruises between the Fengcheng River Scenic Area and Shanghai Jiushi Suzhou Creek Tourism, and an industrial heritage partnership between Taizhou Tailai Flour Mill and the Suzhou Creek Industrial Civilization Exhibition Hall. The ceremony concluded with a ceremonial bamboo steamer unveiling and an outdoor lawn concert, marking a vibrant new chapter in Shanghai-Taizhou tourism integration.
