To improve the application of digital farming technology, Xinghua city – administered by Taizhou in East China's Jiangsu province – started to use advanced 5G agriculture applications.
As a result, 5G unmanned farms are now being promoted in the city.
They're focusing on full 5G coverage for the acquisition of farmland information, as well as on 5G intelligent operations of farmland management and a 5G big data platform for unmanned farms.
At the Xinghua modern agricultural industrial park, unmanned farms have been introduced – making available unmanned plant protection, fertilization, cultivation and harvesting.
The collection of agricultural information is the foundation for the operation of 5G unmanned farms. As a result, Xinghua has rolled out a fully covered 5G communications network to ensure the rapid data acquisition for meteorology, crops, soil, diseases and pests – and to promote the integration of multi-source information.
Moreover, Xinghua is utilizing 5G to galvanize the fishing and aquaculture sectors, exploring the development path of digital fisheries. Water quality monitoring, intelligent controls, platform supervision and convenient services are all being realized there.
In May 2022, Xinghua was the first in the province to launch a digital fisheries platform and it created the first 5G+digital fisheries demonstration village in Jiangsu, situated in Xinwu village in Hainan town.
The demonstration village has already made an annual reduction in labor costs of 10,000 yuan ($1,372), while annual earnings have increased by 20 percent.
In terms of processing agricultural products, Xinghua has built intelligent applications – such as 5G+data collection and 5G+intelligent warehousing – to achieve the digitalization of the entire process.
