The city of Xinghua – administered by Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province – is increasing its recognition of high-tech companies.

In fact, some 162 businesses that are based in the metropolis were officially designated as high-tech enterprises last year. Those who applied for the status had a pass rate of 75 percent, which was higher than the province-wide pass rate by 11.02 percentage points.

What's more, Xinghua ranked first both in the recognition number and pass rate in Taizhou.

Pei Manian, director of Xinghua's bureau of science and technology, said the city regarded the nurturing of high-tech companies and technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises as its primary task and key focus.

He added that it was continuously improving ways to identify them and methods to cultivate different levels of these firms.

After learning about the current limited application of high-tech technology by food manufacturers, Xinghua nominated two – Kerisom and Dingneng – as breakthrough candidates. The city then introduced them to consultants and provided one-on-one guidance in their application for the prized status.

As a result, both manufacturers were accorded official recognition as high-tech enterprises.

Currently, Xinghua is home to 370 national high-tech enterprises and 717 national technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises, showing a rapid upward growth trend.
