Xinghua city in Jiangsu province held its first Shared Laboratory Open Day on April 10 at the lab of food manufacturer Kerisom Food Biotechnology, located in the Xinghua Economic Development Zone.
Focusing on the production of animal cream products and frozen noodle products, Kerisom is the largest single natural butter production base in China, with dairy butter exports accounting for over 90 percent of the country's total.
In order to assist small and micro food manufacturers in delivery inspections, Xinghua established 12 shared inspection laboratories in 2023, using a model of large enterprises sharing their facilities, with small and micro enterprises participating in joint construction.
Of the dozen labs, 10 inspection laboratories shared by large enterprises have leveraged their technological, equipment and staff to provide inspection services to 63 SMEs more than 3,000 times.
The two inspection laboratories jointly built by SMEs have solved the problem of "one cannot afford to build, one cannot afford to use" by sharing their resources and costs.

During the open day, the heads and inspectors from enterprises engaged in 12 shared inspection laboratories visited Kerisom's shared laboratory.
There, they gained a detailed understanding of the laboratory's environmental conditions, operating modes, inspection processes, sample management and more.
With increasingly strict food safety standards and rising consumer demand, Kerisom invested heavily in upgrading its inspection equipment last year, achieving self-inspection of multiple new indicators and improving the accuracy and reliability of testing.
