Xinghua in East China's Jiangsu province held a promotional conference on the high-quality development of its river crab industry chain on Sept 25.
Chen Fengjian, Party secretary of Xinghua, said that in recent years, the city has concentrated on integrating breeding, cultivation and promotion of river crab varieties, quality, and brands, while also enhancing technological innovation services.
Yang Bei, vice-mayor of Xinghua, led efforts to promote investment across the entire river crab industry chain. He said that the city has established China's largest river crab breeding base and trading market. Currently, Xinghua supports 18,000 crab farmers and 300,000 industry workers, with an annual production of nearly 70,000 metric tons of river crabs.
With efficient sales channels, Xinghua has established over 500 crab specialty stores nationwide and has ongoing partnerships with brands like Freshippo and RT-Mart, expanding its exports to more countries and regions.
Xu Gangchun, a researcher from the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center at the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, reported on the cultivation of the "Xinghua No 1" river crab, a new crab variety that offers numerous benefits.
