This autumn, towns in Xinghua, Jiangsu province, are enveloped in the fragrance of ripe rice, as fields buzz with the sound of farmers harvesting their bounty.
In Zhuhong town, a once-abandoned waste land has been transformed into fertile farmland, yielding its first harvest with an expected 10,500 kilograms per hectare. This revival was spurred by the national strategy to preserve arable land.

Meanwhile, in Daduo town, 43,000 mu (2,866 ha) of rice fields are being harvested using modern machinery. Farmer Jin Zhiyun, who cultivates 780 mu, reports a yield of up to 750 kg per mu, attributing the success to high-quality seeds and expert agronomic guidance.

The town has embraced green farming practices, like straw chopping and returning to fields, enhancing soil fertility and reducing chemical fertilizer use.
