Taizhou's port economy delivered solid growth in 2025, underscoring its role as a key logistics hub along the Yangtze River.
Total cargo throughput increased to 463 million metric tons, a rise of 1.2 percent compared to the previous year. As a major inland waterway city, Taizhou also saw strong gains at its river ports. Inland cargo throughput climbed to 43.77 million tons, a 21.9 percent increase, while inland container volume rose 24.2 percent to 102,000 TEUs.
The Unibr Terminal at the Jiangyan Port Area deepened cooperation with the Port of Shanghai, launching inland container terminal and yard services. Annual container throughput surpassed 50,000 TEUs, up 52.7 percent.
"With closer cooperation with Shanghai, our reach has expanded from the Yangzhou-Taizhou area to Yancheng, Huai'an and Hefei," said Yu Jing, assistant general manager of Unibr International Port Taizhou. "Our cargo includes photovoltaic products, home appliances, building materials and grain. In January alone, we handled more than 4,300 TEUs, and we are confident of exceeding 60,000 TEUs this year."
Policy support has been a key driver of high-quality growth. In 2024, Taizhou introduced measures to support container transport at Yangtze River ports, including subsidies to expand shipping routes, encourage freight forwarding, and improve logistics services. In 2025, the city distributed more than 8 million yuan ($1.16 million) in special container funds, helping lower logistics costs and further energizing market players.
