The Xinfu 139, a 24,000-TEU ultra-large container vessel built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, completed its full towing operation along the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River on March 25.
The vessel is one of the world's largest dual-fuel container ships by carrying capacity, with a maximum capacity of 24,212 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). It also has an estimated sailing range of around 20,000 nautical miles on a single liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering.
Compared with conventional fuel-powered vessels, the ship offers major environmental benefits. Its carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by about 20 percent, nitrogen oxide emissions by more than 85 percent and sulfur oxides and particulate matter by as much as 99 percent.
Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group signed an order in 2023 for 10 dual-fuel 24,000-TEU container ships. The Xinfu 139 is the second vessel in the series.
