In celebration of seven decades of diplomatic ties between China and African nations, a delegation of journalists representing 21 African countries visited Hailing district, Taizhou, Jiangsu province, on Sept 17. The event, part of the prelude to the 2026 China-Africa Cultural Exchange Year, offered media representatives a firsthand look at eastern China's vibrant traditions.

The morning journey began at the historic Liufang Teahouse, where delegates were introduced to Taizhou's famed morning tea culture. Over traditional delicacies such as shredded tofu, crab roe buns, and fish soup noodles, journalists experienced local culinary art while learning about the history behind each dish.

"This is my first time tasting Taizhou breakfast. The shredded tofu is so refreshing, and the crab roe soup dumplings are delicious," remarked Farlan Beni Evaka, a journalist from Gabon. "It's impressive to see how a day in China begins with such exquisite care."

Following the culinary experience, reporters enjoyed a live Peking Opera showcase. Guided by professional performers, several journalists tried on traditional costumes and learned iconic stage movements.

"Amazing! The costumes are breathtaking," said Rousa Shikoha, a reporter from Namibia. "It is a magnificent art form unique to China, and I am eager to share this experience with audiences back home."

The delegation concluded their tour at the Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall, honoring the legendary Peking Opera master. Olivia Edouard, a journalist from Mauritius, said that Mei's legacy demonstrates how art serves as a universal bridge for mutual understanding, reinforcing the deep cultural bonds between China and Africa.
