As summer temperatures climb, a night market along the Fengcheng River has become Taizhou's most popular evening escape, drawing visitors for a free, open-air celebration of culture, crafts and waterborne fun.

Every Friday and Saturday from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, the riverside promenade transforms into a lively stage. Performers in full Peking Opera regalia recite classic excerpts against the backdrop of shimmering water and glowing lanterns, followed by solo traditional Chinese dance routines that ripple through the cooling evening breeze. No tickets or reservations are required — passersby simply gather along the bank.

The action extends onto the water itself. At 5:30 pm, folding boats and paddleboards open to the public, carving trails across the river until 9:30 pm. Enthusiasts often link their boards into a floating dragon train, adding a spontaneous, communal twist.

Onshore, artisans demonstrate time-honored skills such as cloisonne, wheat-straw painting and ancient plant-dye techniques. Visitors rarely leave empty-handed, with most carrying home a one-of-a-kind souvenir.
With the glow of the television and Wenfeng towers reflected in the water, the market offers a distinctly Taizhou summer experience.
