Taizhou opens its first integrated waterway service area

Taizhou's first integrated waterway service area has been built along the Nantong-Yangzhou Canal, providing safe berthing for up to 40 vessels at the same time. The facility is designed to address long-standing challenges for passing vessels, including disorganized berthing, difficulties obtaining supplies and a lack of places for crews to rest.

Equipped with facilities for power, water supply, drainage, firefighting, and communications, the service area is now ready for operation.

The facility provides essential services including power, water supply and waste collection, helping to ease the operational and maintenance challenges faced by vessels on the waterway. A dedicated crew lounge, sanitary facilities, convenience store and EV charging stations also provide crews with convenient options for rest and daily supplies. Space has been reserved for future fuel and gas stations.

Beyond basic services, the area features a shipping culture exhibition zone that offers crews an opportunity to learn about Taizhou's rich local waterborne transport heritage while taking a break.

The service area also embraces green development. Distributed photovoltaic systems, all-electric kitchens, and smart streetlights will be deployed throughout the site, with clean electricity as the sole energy source, creating a greener, more sustainable environment for inland shipping.
