Taizhou has strengthened its position as a manufacturing powerhouse after 118 local enterprises were shortlisted for Jiangsu province's 2026 list of advanced smart factories, according to a recent announcement by the provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology.

The number ranks Taizhou sixth among cities across Jiangsu. With the latest additions, the city now has a total of 309 provincial-level advanced smart factories.

The newly recognized factories span a range of industries, including healthcare, offshore engineering, shipbuilding, chemicals, new materials, automobiles, electronic information, intelligent equipment and new energy.

Jiangsu's advanced smart factory program is part of a national initiative to upgrade manufacturing through digital and intelligent technologies. Smart factories are classified into four levels: foundational, advanced, excellent and leading.

Enterprises applying for advanced-level recognition must demonstrate industry-leading capabilities in digital transformation. This includes extensive use of intelligent equipment, industrial software and digital systems, as well as integrated management of production and operations processes.

One example is the energy storage battery smart factory operated by Shuangdeng Group. The facility has achieved full connectivity among its intelligent equipment, enabling data sharing across the entire production chain.

The company said the project has shortened product development cycles by 22.77 percent, while delivering industry-leading performance in product consistency, safety and cycle life.
