The finals for a competition final for zaocha – or early breakfast tea – were held recently in the ancient street in Taizhou city, in East China's Jiangsu province.

The event, staged on April 28, attracted 39 teams from various districts and county-level cities in the metropolis.

In addition to competing with their cooking skills, many teams also vied to create the most creative and visually stunning displays of dishes. Several local features, such as navy ship, cole and elk, also went on display.

After hours of judging, the top 10 single items were awarded, including five-flavored gansi (shredded hard bean curd cakes), Chinese pastries, and fish soup noodles – as well as 20 top Taizhou zaocha shops, 52 Taizhou zaocha masters and 10 Taizhou zaocha rookies.
