A total of 14 painters, 12 calligraphers and 10 poets recently toured Taizhou in East China's Jiangsu province to create works of art, bringing their inspiration to the historical and cultural city.

In keeping with the tour's theme of paying homage to preeminent 18th-century artist and writer Zheng Banqiao, who was born in Xinghua city, administered by Taizhou, the visitors created pieces that sought to integrate Zheng's caring for the local people and his pursuit of innovative work.

As a result, 37 paintings, 38 calligraphy works and nearly 70 poems were left by the artists who toured Taizhou.

An exhibition was held to display the artworks, attracting crowds of people.

Local resident Li Ruizi said he and his family had keenly followed the activities of the leading poets, calligraphers and painters in Taizhou for several days.

He added that his child has been studying calligraphy since elementary school and was overjoyed to come and appreciate the works about Zheng and Taizhou by the contemporary artists.

Overall, Taizhou is aiming to tap into its rich cultural resources to activate the spirit of the times, in order to inspire, reflect and help drive the continuous progress of the city.
